ACT and SAT?

What year in high school do you take these tests? I 'm a sophomore and i just got this postcard from kaplan telling me when's the next ACT prep at my school.

Man, I would hope your 10th grade scores were horribly higher, I didn't have the knowledge in 7th grade to do remotely well on the SAT.
 
I took the PSAT as a freshman and a sophomore. I took both the SAT and ACT as a junior and again as a senior. The first time for each test was a "practice" session. If you have the $$$, go ahead and take the ACT and/or SAT at the end of your sophomore year for more practice.

It was a difference of 50 points.

I participated in a similar program when I was in 7th grade. I took both the SAT and the ACT in 7th grade to "see what it was like". I scored around a 800 on the SAT, and I scored a 21 on the ACT. The sad thing was that my ACT score surpassed seniors taking the test in high school.

As far as taking the SAT in the seventh grade, there are several "academically gifted programs" in the nation (TIP at Duke Univ and CTY at Johns Hopkins) that require that students take the SAT for admission.

As far as the difference in the scores, TIP (the one I'm familiar with) says to expect a 50 to 75 point improvement per year... if possible. Of course my data is relatively old.... back when they didn't recenter the SAT. My seventh and 11th grade scores differed by about 250 points.

As for the original poster, I would take either my junior year, and then take the SAME one my senior year if I wasn't satisfied with my scores.

Personally, I wouldn't take prep courses because I just see them as another exam. Either you know the answer or you don't.

 
Took the SAT in 7th grade, and fall of junior year. That's it, nice and quick. Never bothered touching the ACT because I knew I wanted to go east/west coast. Happy with my score in fall of junior year, kept it, and got in to where I wanted 🙂 A couple of my friends went to the prep program, they said it was a waste of money. You can do pretty much what the program does by yourself and with practice books if you have the self discipline and whatnot. The program is for some people, whereas it's a waste for others. It's up to you.
 
the tests are really easy man the time limit for the ACT is what gets me but dont fret just prepare for a long boring 4 hours.

Hey I did that Johns Hopkins thing too in 7th grade. IIRC I got 1100 (560 math). I is smart.
