my girlfriend and I went to Canada for a night and when we were coming back through the border the guy said it was a random search (by license plate number he said) and that i had to pull ahead into a little garage. so i did, and there's about 6 uniformed (like police) guys there and they say to get out of the vehicle.

we did and gave the guy our driver's licenses, and the other guys proceed to open up the doors, check out the whole car, trunk, etc. the guy we gave our licenses to asks us a few questions: Where are you from? What was your business in Canada? How do you know each other? Have you ever smoked marijuana? Do you smoke marijuana? Are you lying to me about smoking marijuana?

so they check the whole fvcking car and did not even search us. we had to empty out our pockets onto the table in front of us (i had some change in them), but those were my front two pockets. the guy did not pat us down or search our rear pockets or my cargo pockets or our shoes. i could've had pistols in my cargo pockets and they would not have known. seems like suspicious that they'd "random" search us and not even pat us down. "Do you smoke marijuana?"

seems to me that weapons and the such are quite a bit more important than wheather or not i "smoke the pot."

but they didn't even search US. so i conclude it was either not random and they were harassing us, or it was random and they were just stupid. hehe

That is BS, sorry to tell you. I live in metro Detroit and have gone to windsor 3-4 dozen times, pulled over twice, and that is it. Once was a random search, the other time was because 4 teenagers were in the car. Every other time I have gone through without issue.

They weren't looking for a gun (would you really go to Canada to buy a gun?!), and they probably weren't concern with what's in your pocket... because chances are, if you were going to smuggle something over, you were going to hide them better than in your back pockets.

Consider yourself lucky. I once aroused suspicion, because I drove 9 hours to Canada in a rented car, and I was only in Canada for 2 hours. They kept me (and my freind) there for 2 and 1/2 hours, X-rayed the car (or so they told us anyway), brought sniffer dogs into the car, ripped out all the seat stuffing, pulled out the spare tire, made us empty our pockets, questioned us on every credit card and stuff, etc, etc, etc. Wasn't a very pleasant experience, but I was glad to see that they do their job well.
