Acronis True Image: Errors in WinXP Event Log

I am trying a 15-day trial of Acronis True Image 7.0 (build 613) and have found it rather interesting. I am concerned with some errors that are appearing in the Window's Event Viewer system log.

Specifically, when using the Explore Image and Unplug Image features, the following appear in the system log:
Error: The Driver detected a controller error on \Device\HardDisk2\D
Warning: The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.

I was wondering if other True Image users have seen these events, and if so what action(s) they did to remedy them. I realize these errors refer to a virtual disk TI creates, but they are disconcerting never the less.

System: 3.0G 875P (Asus P4C800-E mobo). Image of (2) SATA drives in RAID-0 config. Image written to new PATA drive. WinXP Home, SP1.

From the ACRONIS web-site.

Trial-version limitations:

* 15 days trial version;
* It is not possible to restore images of a system partition;
* It is not possible to create and restore images, and clone disks when Acronis True Image 7.0 is launched from the bootable rescue media.

Trial version of this software is intended only to show how the software works and its user interface.
It is a limited-functionality demo.

That sounds bad because it is.

Your OS cannot properly access your hard drives. In this case it failed to write to the transaction log so NTFS's journaling is not able to prevent corruption.

Uninstall the software you just added and see if there is any change.

How your backups looking these days?

Edit: Run the "map" command from recovery console if you are unsure what \Device\HardDisk2 is pointing to.

Thanks for replying gents. The trial software has the restore functionality disabled, but otherwise works. (There is not much to it!)

The errors occur when attaching a backup image (actually just a single file) as a virtual disk. It's not a real disc - it even appears as a virtual drive in the Windows hardware manager. Functionaly, everything works, but WinXP is recording the errors when attaching and detaching the read-only virtual drive.

Thanks again.

While it does APPEAR to work, alas it does not.
That was the intention. To give the FEEL of the software in action, but not function.

Apparently I should have been more specific in my original post. The Explore option is fully functional in the trial version; it not only appears to work, it does work. I used the the Explore option to mount a backup image as a virtual drive, and successfully copied a large text file from the backup image to my system's desktop. I did this just to examine the Explore option - I didn't try to restore an entire partition or disk. (The restored file - actually a duplicate as the original file was not located on my desktop - opened without any problems.)

I posted this same query to a backup newsgroup on the UseNet and found others who encountered the same errors with purchased (not trial) versions of True Image. I finally got a reply from Acronis today (with an apology for the delay):

"The above errors sometimes happens for Windows XP OS, as it tries to write some data during mount/unmount processes, but the virtual disk is in read-only mode, and those errors are shown."

Thanks again to all for your help.
