i checked my msconfig -> startup tab after installing True Image 8 and it put a couple entries in there? One of them is an .exe file. Are they necessary for running True Image safely? I hate bloatware! :) Let me know what you other guys have experienced. Thanks guys.

Acronis will not work correctly without the StartUp Entries.

There is a free program that helps control the StartUp list as easy as check or Uncheck.

Link to: Free - Startup Control Panel.

If you are Not using TrueImage often you can Uncheck the entries, and re-check before Acronis is used.

I bought TI8. It's one of several programs that I've wasted money on. It is bloatware.

'Image for DOS' is inexpensive, reliable and has no Windows involvement whatsoever. I've used this program to image/restore my OS partition to/from DVD media on numerous occasions. 30-day demo is fully-functional, purchase is less than $20. http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/

Hope this helps!

It like Apple and Pears, it really depends on what you want to do. For some things a one shot DOS thingie is the best solution, for others (especially when network is involved) True image is invaluable.

P.S. Large program (bloatware) is not a problem for most of us. I got rid of my old IBM 10MB drive long time ago. 200GB Drives are on sale for less then $100.

I use the Acronis ti8 bootable CD. I think you have to install the Windows version to create it, but you can uninstall the windows version after that (probably want to test the CD first in case of a bad burn).
