$9.95 + tax in some states. Bought directly through the acronis.com e-commerce site, so no reason to worry about the acronis.net site's origins. Download was fast from a digitalriver site (a major commercial content distribution site that places like Microsoft also use to send out big purchased downloads).

They had an Acronis True Image Home 2009 version open beta about a month ago, and that version looked ok. So the current offer is on a program version that will soon likely be replaced by that newer product. All the same, this slightly older version is probably just fine for most everyone's needs and is likely going to be the least expensive way to get a license for this kind of product inclusive of the bells and whistles absent on some of the freeware competitive products.

If one of your system drives is a Seagate or Maxtor you can download a free MaxBlast (I think that's the name) utility that is a free stripped down version of Acronis that can do some backup / imaging / copy stuff for you -- get that right from seagate/maxtor. Western Digital and others probably have similar offers.

Freeware like gparted / clonezilla / partimage can probably solve some peoples needs too.

All the same, I ordered the ATI 11 since for $9 to get some extra features I think it's a good deal to have in one's computer toolbox.

 
It's the first thing I run after activating Windows on a new PC, that way I know I can always get back to a clean install without a new activation.

I was able to get Acronis Disk Director Suite 10 for free as well with my order (I already had it, but another license for free is, well, free!).

Additionally, if you turn off your pop-up blocker after adding the $9.99 product to your cart, then click on the Acronis logo in the upper left side of the screen, you get an offer to take off an additional 10%, making the total cost less than $9.

The Seagate/Maxtor versions are fine, except that they don't allow incremental backups (unless I'm missing something). That's a major drawback.

This is definately worth the $10. Thanks for the headsup.
 
I am also using TIH 10. I looked at 11 and saw no reason to upgrade. With 10, I've learned what features to trust (image backup and image and file restore) and what features not to trust (file backup).

Only if the Acronis 12 comes out within 30 days of your purchase.

My guess is that at this price, this Acronis 12 will be out within 30 days. They are just trying to milk a little more sales from the Acronis 11 for the books.
 
Good deal- I've been using TI 7 for years with good results. Should be interesting to see what 11 does differently.

Casper never fails - it emplys no image, and is a joy to use.
Yeah, I know - you never heard of it.

BTW does anyone have anything especially good / bad to say about Vista Business / Ultimate Image Backup? IIRC it lacks a lot of flexibility in how it can be used compared to something like TIH11 here, but I wonder how reliable / useful it is even given its limited capabilities?

Casper XP was outstanding when I tried it. The trial version before would not let you do copies on hdd's of different size, so you have to make sure the hdd's are partitioned with identical size. Otherwise, the thing is a no brainer and works inside Windows. If only it was priced the same as TI!

The partitions dont have to be "identical size" with the trial vers., they only have to be the same NUMBER of partitions if you are doing a whole HDD, and have enough space to take the data. You cant put 80 Gigs on a 60GB partition. Or you can get around the trial restriction and do one partition at a time. And, as all HDD are slightly different, even off the same assembly line, it is impossible to make exactly "identical partitions" in any case.

The full vers. of Casper has a proportionality option to create and shrink or expand the backup drive partitions or single partition:
Say you have a 320GB drive with 3 partitions (Seagate 20-150-150)) and want to add a 640GB drive as a backup (WD). Just click yes to proportional and it will CREATE 3 parts 40-300-300 and all the necessary file tables MBR etc.. The reverse is true for shrinking.

Casper is only 3.97 MB and does not install on the O/S, it is just an exe.
Casper needs no instruction tutorial - it is just two clicks.
Casper lets you pick FAT32 or NTFS.
Casper creates no CD, and no optical disc is needed to do anything.
Casper does not create a proprietary image like Acronis, Ghost or Partition Tragic.
(It is the ISO-like IMAGE that gets you in trouble, because it has no individual Windows file table data related addresses)
Casper can run while you are browsing the internet.
Casper NEVER fails, and there is a log to see if errors occurred and where.
Casper can, depending on severity, SAVE data on a partition with corrupted file system, because it creates its own on the new drive.
Casper 5 is twice as fast in transfer as vers 4
Casper and TrueImage are same price (without discounts)
There is a tech version starting at $549 for those that want to backup hundreds of networked computers.

For an IDE drive with IDE backup:
Set backup IDE jumpered as slave in middle of cable - slave jumpered drives do not boot.
Transfer master to slave, including O/S (if you wish), proportional (or just transfer to space avail as long as it is sufficient)
Done.
If Master drive (or O/S) fails, takeout bad drive, change jumper on slave, move drive to end of cable, reboot and you are ready to go. Throw in new HDD and make a new backup.
Or just transfer "good" O/S partition from backup to master, or new HDD.
For SATA to SATA, (in full SATA bios mode), same thing, just change booting order on 2 drives when something goes wrong.
