Does the bootable recovery disc you can make allow you to boot from the disc and restore an image without using windows? Thanks.

You should be able to make your backups there which I was told recently is best way to backup OS.

Yes - the CDR is the way to go in most cases. You get a better GUI and better in process info with no reboot necessary. Further - the CDR can be used on any PC so that installation of Acronis is not even necessary. And it does not matter what the OS is.

Yes - and MAYBE. GF has TI 9.0 I believe, maybe 10. Her HD took a dump a few months ago and the recovery CD did not see her SATA drive and she was unable to restore. According to Acronis 9.0 supported SATA but it didn't work with her MBs chip set. While it SHOULD work without Windows it's definitely not 100%

You can also create a bootable USB drive as a rescue device if that would work better for you, just wanted to mention it because it seems most people aren't aware of it.

Good to have both setups in case your using it on a system that doesnt support USB boot method.
