acronis 2013 clone disk

I had to upgrade Acronis 10 to 2013 since it doesn't work under windows 7.

never had problems cloning disks with 10.

trying to clone my c: hard drive to a new disk in a usb enclosure, and then will move that disk to my laptop.

i go through and click proceed. then i see in the tray a status thing. it stays at 0%.

the help says it should ask me to reboot since i am doing the windows disk.
it never asks me to reboot.

if i reboot manually, nothing happens.

wtf is wrong?

I just upgraded to Acronis 2013 as well. I created a full backup and a boot disk with no problems. I guess I am curious exactly what drive cloning is supposed to do, and how it differs from creating a full system backup. BTW, obviously since I know nothing about disk cloning I cant help you with your question, I was just curious about what cloning is used for.

I use Acronis cloning regularly. It should be done using their created bootable media. Cloning from within windows always requires a reboot since it must be done off line.

So, the best results are the bootable Rescue Media. I use a thumb drive. The GUI is better and there is no reboot.

Cloning creates a duplicate drive that is ready to use. Backup creates an image file that needs to be restored.

are there any caveats to cloning a drive? Things to do/not to do, programs not to have installed? ect?
