Well, i'm in the process in getting a Evga 8800gtx, and I was wondering if you guys think I should upgrade the: CPU, Ram, Mobo, and quite possibly the psu if it doesn't have enough power (which I doubt).

CPU: AMD FX-55 Socket 939

RAM: 2x 1GB OCZ EL DDR PC-3200 / 400MHz / Platinum / Dual Channel CAS 2-3-2-5

PSU😱CZ Powerstream 520watts

Motherboard: DFI NF$ SLI-DR Socket 939 mobo

I have someone is willing to buy all of it and my 7800gtx since i'm not going to be needing it anymore . What do you guys think should I upgrade the rest of the computer as well?

I'm going to use my 2x 74 gig raptors, my 2 250gb seagate drives, and a dvd burner.

Well it depends on how much money you can sell your current rig for, vs how much it would cost to upgrade to a core 2 duo system.

What would be the net amount of money you'd have spent, after getting money for selling your current rig?

Between $1000-2000 $1100 for now though, I might be able to get another grand depending once I sell the other stuff that I have.

So you'll get about $1000 from your old computer sale. And you already have your 8800GTX?

So $1000 has to buy: processor, mobo, ram, case. Also, optionals like sound card and tv tuner. What about monitor?

I'd say go for the upgrade.

Yes, I'm going to have $1100 to spend with the Video card already purchased. I already have a monitor and a case. In other words, I'm just going to need a cpu, ram, and mobo. I already have a SB Audigy 2. I might get a tv tuner though.

Well, if you have the money, I'd say go for it, but personally, I rather wait out for the Quad processors to come down in price considering C2D isn't 'THAT' much better performing then AMD processors.

You have someone today to buy what you have? Take the money and run, tommorow he won't be there. The speed at which technology is changing makes most hardware obsolete the day after it's paid for. Upgrade whenever you get the opportunity.

Right, and of course, your financial situation, your priorities and what all else you have on your plate.

Well I tend to assume that by the time they come here for computer advice, they've already paid their utility bills for the month 🙂

But knowing some of the hardware nuts on here I could be wrong!

I actually live with my parent's. So, bills aren't a problem. 🙂

One more thing, I spoke to the person who was going to by my comp, he's going to have to wait a couple of weeks before he buys it. Which is fine because, I'm going to wait for the new intel cpus that are coming out in about a month.
