Strange thing is going on. I use a Netgear router and wireless usb adapter, not sure if the versions are important as this is a new problem/issue.

I am currently connected, posting from the computer in question. It says that I am connected to the router with a 54Mbps connection speed, which is as high as this g connector gets. If I open the properties it has my IP listed, which is also correct.

The thing is, below my little computer icon by the clock, it has the "Acquiring IP address" animation going and says the same thing when I hover my mouse over it.

Uh, WTF?

Any help would be great, TIA.

P.S. If I do "Repair Connection" it gets stuck on the same step, never clears the cache, etc. No, nothing in/on/around my system is new... nothing has changed. This is a new problem.

powercycle the router.

Your computer will attempt to renew it's IP at halfway through it's lease. If not successfull, then 3/4 of the way. Powercycling your router will likely "jumpstart" the embedded DHCP server

WHat if you go to a DOS prompt and manually do an ipconfig release and then an ipconfig renew. I assume you actually get an IP but the icon just thinks you haven't?
