ACPI won't disable

I tried disabling ACPI in the BIOS and the computer wouldn't boot- Microsoft says in an article that Windows 2000 sometimes doesn't like ACPI being disabled but I'm running XP on a desktop. Any ideas what's up?

I believe you pretty much have to reinstall Windows if you want to change that.
