ACPI Shutdown in Win2k

Hi there,

I usually shutdown my Win2k using the conventional method, going to Start -> Shutdown and choosing Shutdown and clicking "Ok".

However, I have ACPI enable both in BIOS and in Win2k and when I hit the power button, it shuts down windows correctly but, instead of turning my computer off, it displays a screen with the infamous message "It is now safe to turn off your computer", or something like that.

Does anyone know how I can get my ACPI power button event to actually turn off my computer after shutdown windows?

Thanks,

Rayon(r)

Actually I have a similar problem. Before in Win9x, when I go to Start -> Shutdown, my computer will actually turn off after the Windows Shutdown sequence. After I install win2k, when I do the same thing it displays that "It is now safe to turn off your computer." message, and I have to manually turn off my computer. I am dual-booting Win2k and win98, and win98 can turn off the computer automatically, but not win2k. Anyone know how to solve this problem?

I don't have this problem. Did you make sure Win2k correctly detected your ACPI BIOS?

How do I check? And if it did not detect correctly, how do I correct it?

Control Panel/Power Options/APM......click mark the "Enable Advanced Power Management Support".

You all may need to update your bios. Abit has released versions recently just for this problem with w2k. A reinstall of w2k may also have to be done. During the installation, when the computer reboots, press F5 at the first blue screen (not F6) and select ACPI compliant computer.

Good hint! Thanks,

I'm using the latest BIOS for my BE6-II, which is the SH revision. I accidentally installed Win2k with ACPI disable in BIOS. Then I had to reinstall Win2k so we could detect ACPI BIOS.
