I know current P4's with Hyperthreading use multiprocessor HAL for WinXP but what about Athlon 64? I installed WinXP and it defaulted to Uniprocessor.

I'm just trying to figure out why my new rig does not power down...

Thanks!

P4s with HT use the Multiprocess HAL because they present 2 logical processors, AFAIK no AMD64 chips do that yet so running the multiprocessor HAL won't get you anything and might even cause a slight performance hit.

Yeah that's what I thought. Thank you. I remember hearing some sell point of "hypertransport" with AMD, but thatps probably not the same.

HyperTransport (the other HT) is not the same thing. It's a bus technology, if I understand it right.

If you use multiprocessor for an A64 certain benchmarks like superpi and 3DMark01 improve. Its one of the tweaks competitive benchmarkers use.
