Acoustic Edge/Speaker Problem - Help appreciated.

Just returned my Xgamer card for a Philips Acoustic Edge card after reading all the glowing reviews. However, Im having some problems getting my speakers setup.
I have Boston Acoustics BA735 digital speakers. Says on their webpage that these speakers use "audio input is by way of a digital S/PDIF" Philips card has a S/PDIF cable. But the only cable coming out of my speakers is at the opposite end of the digital in cord and it doesnt seem to fit into any of the jacks on the S/PDIF cable.

Dont know much about soundcards and speakers. Is there some sort of incompatability with this card and digital speakers (mine in particular). Do I need an adapter or am I missing something stupid?

This is giving me a headache, any help is greatly appreciated.

Forgot to add: got them to work on the Xgamer by checking some "digital speaker only" box or something like that. Dont see any comparable option with the Philips card.

i'm not familiar with those speakers, what does the cable that is connected to your speakers look like? is it 2 pin? fiber? coax?

The S/PDIF external connections that I am aware of are TOSLINK (looks like a little fire hydrant) and COAX (really an RCA Composite plug). I'm slowly getting into the Acoustic Edge, but I don't know what it offers for a connector. One of the two, I hope.

There is other digital connector in the form of a proprietary DIN from Creative and is employed on Cambridge Soundworks products.

I have the acoustic edge, and the S/PDIF connector is something that looks exactly like what you'd plug a regular speaker set into, or a headphone. Ok, it's not *exactly* that but it's certainly not coax.

I think the term "coax" is used with that connector because there is an inner lead as well as an other "lead" that carry signals.

Sir Fredrick:

There are two types of Coax...you have to be careful. There is the Cablevision and old network standard Coax wire...and the RCA type SPDIF cable is also referred to as Coax..not sure why....

Simulat:

The SPDIF type on the Phillips Accoustic Edge is RCA/Coax for both input and output.

A quick look on BA's website shows that there is the BA735 that uses SPDIF input, but doesn't specific if it's RCA/Coax or TOSLINK/Optical...there is also the BA735USB, that use USB input not a standard SPDIF type...if you have those you hook them up to USB not your soundcard...if you have the non-USB ones, they might be Optical which the AE doesn't support...
