Acoustic Edge: I want to input an AC-3 or DTS signal (on it's SPDIF plug) and decode&downmix it to 4 channel output. Opinions?

I have a Hollywood Plus DVD Decoder card, which has a Digital SPDIF output.

What I want to do is get a Philips Acoustic Edge and run the Digital SPDIF from my H+ to the SPDIF input on the AE, then I want to hook up the AE to a 4 analog speaker input set. The speakers will have 4 sats and a sub like most 4 channel speakers, but they have only 4 inputs Front L/R and Surround L/R they have no separate sub channel. So I need the Acoustic Edge to blend the center channel into the front two, and send the Bass channel through the other 4 and then the crossovers in the speakers will filter it out for me.

I'm looking for people that have tried this kind of setup, and I want your opinions on the Quality of this.

Insane3D says it works out well, anyone else tried it?

Noriaki, my H+ works well with my Philips AE. I can get 4 channel or 5.1 output either by connecting the H+'s analog out to the Phillips "line in" input (analog), or by connecting the s/pdif out of the H+ to the s/pdif input of the AE (digital). I have not utilized true 5.1 because I only have the 4.1 ProMedia set-up now. When I get the 8.2 set-up all up and running I will do some tests. Also, the AE lets you apply or turn off the QMSS algorithyms for either line out or s/pdif output, among others. I am running Win2K SP2 as my OS and it works great. I am glad I picked up the remote for the H+, I watch most of my DVD's on my TV, and it comes in real handy..

On the topic of the H+, I had heard it was able to disable macrovision protection, but I have not been able to find out how. I get scrolling bars on my TV unless I disconnect my cable line..it's really annoying. Have you heard of this?

Cool. So if you hook up the orange RCA on the H+ to the SPDIF input on the AE then you can get pretty good 4 speaker sound for DVDs. And in Win2k as well! Nice, very nice.
Does the surround sound work out pretty well in that setup? I think I might have to be replacing my SBLive with an AE....

As for the macrovision, I've heard of it and I have some links about it on my PC at home. I'm at work right now so I don't have the links, but when I get home tonight I'll get you the info I have on it.
