Is the acoustic edge and MidiLand s4/7100 a good combo? I dont want to spend money for the S4/7100 PLus which has the 5.1 decoder built into it. And since the acoustic edge doesnt have a 5.1 decoder in it, will movies be properly decoded via DVD software?? I am kind of confused on this...if someone could explain this, that would be great.

thx.

as long as the dvd software you are using (powerdvd/windvd) supports multichannel output (power dvd 2.55+ and windvd 2.3+) then the acoustic edge will output the 5.1 channels correctly. no sound cards currently have a decoder built-in - ones like the sblive 5.1 series just have a software implementation similar to powerdvd/windvd, which is really redundant anyway.

For the price it would be hard to do better for 5.1 for movies.

The software doing the decoding will be fine, just make sure that the software you chose supports 5.1 output on your card.

Like mdXtreme3d said, that's WinDVD 2000 2.3M or PowerDVD 2.55 or higher.
