Acoustic Absorbtion Foam?

Hey guys, I found this browsing on a case site.

It is "acoustic absorbtion foam". So how exactly would this work with ventilation and all? Would it be worth it to purchase some? What do you guys think of it? (I do want to quiet my PC down a bit so maybe this would work, right?)

if you really wanna quiet your PC, I would suggest looking for the noisiest components in ur PC. All the foam would do is slightly dampen high frequency noise, it may or may not increase your case temps (it acts as an insulator) and I think your money would be better invested in buying quieter parts. I hope this gives you some insight.
 
My review of AcoustiPack Deluxe

Acoustic Dampening materials are one of the last, if not the last step in noise reduction.

As you can see from my components, I have rather quiet components all hooked up to a Rheobus (a Rheobus controls the voltage going to the fans which speeds them up/slows them down) and most of my fans are running at 7v or below so its all quite quiet.

High quality Acoustic Dampening Materials such as AcoustiPack Deluxe will make an impact but most big differences come from fan choice, rheobus and power supply choice.

One good way to see what to change is to disconnect fans or components one by one, seeing what impact on noise is made. Just remember to play safe, dont disconnect things with the power on and remember that if you are disconnecting important fans, things get hot quickly.
 
Reviews I've read never demonstrate a really measurable reduction in noise, usually noting only a different audible nature of sound from the case.

Reducing RPM of fans, vibration-isolation of fans and drives (the principal case noise-makers) and sealing off side-vent noise path will definitely produce a quieter case.

Silentpcreview site has excellent articles and forum threads on methods and components for reducing case noise.

Yeah, i'm actually considering writing a guide about my attempt to quiet down my PC. SPCR is a great place to get information about pc silencing. Acoustic foam probably won't help too much if theres really loud equipment running. Its more of a last finishing touch to an already quiet PC. Ontop of that, theres several different types of acoustic foams rated at different absorbtion levels and designed for different frequencies. Googleing acoustic foam will probably help explain alot.

Acoustic foam is EXPENSIVE. It doesn't look expensive at $8, but that's almost the lowest quality acoustic foam, ontop of that, its not a very large sheet. Its not worth it unless you really need it. Or if you're planning to quiet down a PC just for the hell of it, like me =p.
 
The thing that stopped me from using any kind of foam product was concerns about keeping it clean. anyone have any experience on how clean it stays?

I know this would be more expensive, but using rolls of cork would probably help, but not by much.

Mine looks clean and its been in for 2 months.

SPCR reviewed the stuff Im using here.
