Compusa has the Acomdata 60 GB 7200 RPM External Firewire hard drive on sale for $49.99 after rebates. I don't know the integrity of the Acomdata drives but this seems to me like a good deal for an external drive at $0.83 / GB.
They also have a 60 GB 5400 RPM 2.0 External drive for the same price. I personally prefer the 7200 RPM,
Link 5400. Both deals are good until 10/18/03.

This is a GREAT deal. I have an Acomdata 40gb from last year.

It's a generic drive. I pulled it out & put in a Seagate 80 gigger. I've got the firewire ver. haven't had any probs with it.

On the rebate. Last year they had 2 seperate forms as is this years. Both came about 3 months later.

I paid $50 a/r last year for the 40gb.

Can someone describe the case for me? I got one today and want to know how well it works before I open it. It looks like it has a fan in it. Is the fan loud? How big is the case? Also how is it powered? Is the AC adapter big? Is it a 3.5" enclosure or is it a 5.25" size?
Thanks!

It looks like the same one I got last year as a 40GB version. 5.25" case (no you can't put a CD drive in). Internal power supply so you just need a pc/monitor type cord. Works great, you can put any size drive in it you wish, I put the 40GB Deskstar in my webserver and it now has a 120GB WD.

***note, mine is the Acomdata 40GB they had last year for $50.00 - looks identical to the one pictured in Compusa's add
