Recent studies have showed that in cultures that were indoctrinated in to "modern culture" recently they went from having no acne to having just as much of a problem as any other modernized culture.

Perhaps if people ate better they wouln't have such an acne problem...

I bet if you looked into it, you'd find somewhere that McDonalds owns Roche (makers of Accutane)...

:D:D:D

LOL...is that true? How convenient, they cause the problem AND fix it at the same time. :D

Eat whole fruits and veggies instead of drinking a gallon of juice and pop every day. Eat real meat instead of going to McDonalds or subway. Don't eat candy bars. Eat whole grain breatdinstead of the $.89 per loaf crap. Hell, even pasta is made from processed wheat.

It is next to impossible to cut processed foods out of you diet but if you have severe acne eatting right can help a lot.

McDonalds = alcohol

Oh, and btw I have no idea if it's true, but I'd highly doubt it.

Does anyone know if that proactiv stuff works? YOu know that infomercial with Vanessa Williams i think. THey claim it's the real deal, but i'm wondering if anyone's tried it and can confirm that.

I've used accutane and pro-activ. I reccomend them both. However neither were miracle workers for me. Without a decent diet, some excercise and careful to touch my face with my hands as little as necessary, has either shown good results.

pro-activ did nothing for me. i took minocyclin as well... nada. accutane was the only thing that worked. and yes, they monitor you monthly on your blood (just be sure you have a competent nurse... man, they jabbed me 4 or 5 times once in one are, then finally got it in the other arm)

it's still there, but more mild than before. if it flares a bit, i take the minocyclin for a couple of days... also use benzaclin....

and as for the side effects, i think the depression think is overblown. the only thing i got was dry lips/skin. I think i was on it for 8 months? thank god for insurance.

works by shrinking the pores/drying out the skin?

Does that mean it would get rid of hyper-hydrosis?

My acne is still bad, but not NEAR as bad as it was. Accutane is amazing. Upon taking accutane, about 2 months into I have ZERO pimples, and after my 6month treatment of 20/20 I stopped... 1 month later my acne came back, not as bad... so the Dr. upped it to 40/20 and I went on for another 6 months... GREAT again. However, a month after taking it, I got acne again, but lesser... so third, and final try, I can never take accutane again, so I'm told... 40/40 ... HORRIBLY dry, my skin would crack bad, but basically I soaked in fat at night, and was fine the next day... no acne... bah, stopped taking it after 6 more months (over 1.5 years now) and it came back...
The Dr. says for most people accutane works the first time and puts acne into ressession... however, that is not the case for me.... but it was awesome never having pimples anywhere.

Accutane works great - but it's only for bad cystic acne. Your acne will probably return if you don't have the cystic variety. It's also nasty and can cause permanant eye damage among other things.

Proactive has the same ingredients used in over the counter stuff you get at the drug store for 1/10 the price.

Laser and light therapy is the future of acne treatment and is really revolutionizing things. For mild-moderate acne there is a device called "Clearlight" which will zap the bacteria in your face and get rid of most of your acne with zero side effects. For more severe acne you can use the "Smoothbeam laser" which damages your oil glands and again has zero side effects. I would look into these if it were me -- only downside is they are not yet covered by insurance.
