Accutane, and yes it is available only by prescription. I was on it in high school.

EDIT: It works, but it may dry the crap out of your skin as well and you have to get blood work done often to make sure it's not screwing up your liver or anything like that.

accutane... and you need to make sure that you do not get pregnant on it/get some one pregnant while on it.. severe birth defects (doctors recommend abortions while on it)

Edit: actually not sure the effect on males using it, but females thats definitely the main concern

See my post above. It does work, but I personally had some problems with my skin drying out BIGTIME for a little while. It helped a lot though, because I had serious zits when I was in high school. I still get some small ones on my face, neck and back mainly because my skin and hair tend to be oily, but nothing serious.

It varies per person. I took it when I was younger and had bad acne and it worked miracles. However, it does carry several side effects. The only one I suffered was the obvious extremely dry skin and easy sun burn. However, the drug has been linked to serious depression and a few other serious side effects. A 1 month dose (full dose is 6 months IIRC) is ~$400.

Worked like a charm for me. 4 months and I was fixed good. Alls I had was really dry cracked lips, but I got some cream stuff that helped with that. It ran $100/month for me 7 years ago in Canada.

LOL! I didn't notice any "sound effects" while taking it, but I guess Accutane has been linked to making people hear voices in their head. ;)

I talked to my doctor about it and he said that there are side effects, but if they watch your bloodwork closely then it's safe.

Accutane is based off of vitamin A, so if you decide you don't want to take the drug, try taking some vitamin A supplements and see if that helps.

You might also try Stridex (the medicated pads that you wipe your face with). That stuff does seem to help. I was using it for a bit to help try to dry up my skin a little. It's an OTC thing, but the active ingredient is salycylic acid (i.e. aspirin) so don't use it if you're allergic to aspirin.

There's also Clearasil and Retin-A (This one is available by prescription only though). These two are both creams that you apply to your skin as opposed to a pill like Accutane.

accutane qorks by shrinking the pores in your skin so they give out less oil. Worked miracles for me, and about 10 of my friends back in HS. I highly recomend it. One thing though, while you're on it your liver gets messed up. Don't even think about drinking any alcohol at all while you're on it. If you do (even like 3 or 4 beers or enough for you to feel anything) you'll be in the hospital in a bad condition.

I took it for 2 months, and my pizza face dissappeared completely.

Accutane is totaly diffrent, and is known to work :)

I took accutane for 5 months, insurance covered it so i was paying 10 bux a month for it :) Great stuff, but it drys you out and sometimes u can get random nosebleeds cuz of dryness...but most people on it will tell you it was worth it. I havent seen many people who complained about acutane not working...

The funny thing about acne is that in preindustrial civilizations it is unheard of. Go to any of those rainforest tribes and there is no acne. So are the forest people immune to it or something? No. Europe was the same way once. So was America. It wasn't until the widespread use of processed foods (sugar, flours, etc) that acne became a problem. Recent studies have showed that in cultures that were indoctrinated in to "modern culture" recently they went from having no acne to having just as much of a problem as any other modernized culture.

Perhaps if people ate better they wouln't have such an acne problem...
