acne medication suggestion

Even in my 20's, still get the acne from anxiety and stress (work-related) problems. I tried Clearasil stuff in high school and it always caused my skin to flake. Too rough, I have sensitive skin.

I have used Proactiv (yes, that television commercial on late-nite) for years, but haven't been having so much luck with it anymore.

Can you guys suggest something similar (being that it is good for sensitive skin) and yet still as or even more effective? Maybe my skin just needs a new thing. Kinda like changing up work outs you do on the body.

Well, all the over the counter stuff pretty much has the same formula....so i would guess use the stuff made for senstive skin?

i just use bjore products
they seem to work well for me

also getting 8 hrs + sleep and improving my diet and working out has been helping my skin clear up a whole lot as well

i just tried doing this for the past month and i have to say it really works better than any medication

dermatologist? 🙂

Yeah, I'm talking to computer nerds here, not skin nerds. My bad. Thought I saw some other threads in the past that people brought up some names of products I had never heard before.

Doxycycline, it's an antibiotic that was primarily used during the anthrax scares. Side effect... no more pimples. 😉 Basically does the same thing as accutane in drying up your skin but not as aggressive at it. Obviously it's also prescription, but another bonus... it costs just $8 for a bottle of 60 capsules without insurance. Ask your doc about it.

Try Stridex. I used to use it for a while and it seems to help a bit. They've got a sensitive skin formulation with aloe in it, as I recall.

You might also consider getting a shorter haircut (assuming you don't already have one) 😉. I swear my acne (I'm 24 but still have a little trouble with zits) has gotten a lot better since I buzzed my hair short several months ago. I don't get cystic acne on the back of my neck anymore, for one thing. When I was in high school, the dermatologist kept telling me I should cut my hair (I had long hair for years) because the oils from your hair get on your skin and cause zits.

If it's really a problem for you (I mean real problem, not just a few zits), I'd see a dermatologist and get on Accutane (I did it in high school because I was a serious pizza-face). The downsides are that it may dry your skin out big-time at first (it did for me), some people have become suicidal on it (not me personally) and you have to get blood work done regularly to be sure your liver doesn't get fscked up.

Clearasil has a small tube (1/8 size of regular)of a cream now with 10% benzoyl peroxide. Anyway, it comes in Tan or Clear. It works wonders. I had similar results to Accutane, but without all the side effects. I could see results in 2 days. In a week my face was pretty much clear. Linky

Wash your face then swipe with a alcohol pad first, then apply this stuff.

EDIT: I just use the cream 1x a day. 2x or 3x dried my face plumb out. But you might start at 2 or 3x for a few days then drop down.

LOL - that's horrible advice. He says he has sensitive skin, so that's a big red flag for using benzoyl peroxide. And if he was to start it would be incredibly stupid to do it 2-3 times a day then drop down. You always start mild and ramp up higher.

That's what I do. I have a three step process from Clinque, then I apply the Clearsil stuff. The process is: face scrub, soap scrub, shave, scruffing lotion (has alcohol), Clearasil. My face has cleared up big time since I started doing this, but I still have some pimples left to eliminate. Hopefully in a couple months they will be all gone.
