Is there an app that does this for Android or desktop?

I was looking for this the other day and couldn't find anything. Maybe I didnt' search long enough. I thought after all these altercations better be safe than...

I'm sure you can set most devices to automatically back up/upload videos to some cloud service. So, don't see anything exceptional by this ACLU app, but still appreciate the effort.

Ya think?
Not a problem. I rarely find your logic logical myself.

The libertarian in me, and it's stronger than my conservatism which is based in fiscal conservatism, would rather we had a society that didn't make people feel they needed to record every aspect of their lives - just in case. I don't think the way to accomplish that goal is to move in the opposite direction which is encouraging people to record more, in part because I feel there will be unintended consequences that we'll regret. But I get it. Some problems are just 'too hard' and the easy way out appears to be the best course of action to some. I also understand that some members of our society also find it easier to think solely in the now rather than the later. That's evidently the boat you're in and I'm happy it works for you. Carry on.

Exactly how is it libertarian to discourage citizens from monitoring the government?

Your mistake is the assumption that it will be used solely for monitoring the government. It can and will be used to monitor anyone and over time the potential is there to monitor everyone. I even gave some examples in post 19. I'm not going to explain it anymore as you seem unable to grasp it. Maybe you've got someone you admire or respect that can explain it to you. Perhaps a mentor or even a sponsor could help.

All that potential already exists with or without this app. I don't know why this is so hard for you to grasp.

Your 'logic' here is nonsensical.

Haven't read entire thread. I think Periscope App let's you stream in real time, no? iOS only though I think.

This list may be a bit dated, but these should each do the trick, and many of them work for both Android and iOS:

Bambuser
justin.tv
Livestream.com
Qik.com
Ustream.tv

Strangely, for an organization that is supposed to be big government loving communists, the ACLU sues the government for abuse of power more than any other.

Usually they sue government only in the case where evil conservative government actions have deprived wonderful liberal flowers of their "rights". Occasionally they are also on the good side of things, but not often.

The ACLU definitely has done some good things and there are good aspects to it, but it's heavy liberal bent makes it pretty much persona-non-grata for anyone who isn't a bleeding heart liberal. Overall they do much more harm than good IMO.

Record the police so they won't abuse you: this is a GREAT idea and it must be done by all to curb and stop abuse!!

ACLU makes an app to back up your recordings of said abuse: Pppppffffttt, big frigging deal.

Specific examples of where they have done harm in your opinion?

Let me know when there will be a pony around every corner. Oh, and balloons. I like balloons. 🙄

Is this logic so hard to grasp, that you resort to mocking the notion?

Let's examine speed limits. Are they obeyed? No.
What if police could know all cases of breaking the law?
What if every incident of speeding was dealt with by consequences?
Would you still speed then?

Most people only break the law because they "know" they'll be getting away with it. Safety in obscurity and anonymity. No one's watching, no one knows. Those days are coming to an end, for all things. This subject is yet another example of that.

Google is your friend. There are numerous examples. Of course, people will agree/disagree with ACLU depending on who's bull is getting gored, but far too frequently the aclu will support PC / leftist values as opposed to constitutional rights. They are amazingly inconsistent and hypocritical in some of their stances, usually (but not always) leaning to the left.

It requires a liberal mindset to acquire a sense of the truth. The truth you seek is conformity, the need for compensatory gratification via ego identification with some pretended virtuous ideology, religion, tribe, state, etc, a.s a result of being put down to control you as a child.

Thinking in the here and now is what libs (or neocons) do best. That's why we have the Patriot Act. 🙁

Where could this lead us eventually? Nothing but pure goodness? Live streaming will be used by those that wish to attain more power over us. That's an inevitability. Bad things that happened on a massive scale in recorded history were rooted in something that seemed very good at the time.

Eventually we'll all have a price on our heads and many that will be oh so willing to cash in. Think long term, not in the here and now. You don't retain your civil liberties by having your actions recorded by people with an ax to grind or for monetary gain.

It's pretty disturbing to hear that there are so many that think surrendering personal liberties will guarantee the retention of their civil liberties.

Its on the person making the assertion to back it up, not say "google it". I'm interested in your opinion of what the ACLU has done that you see as harmful.

It's been available in several other states for some years now.

Many right wingers have reflexively heaped scorn on the ACLU in P&N and IRL over the years, based on what I consider their reflexive ideological ignorance, despite the fact that their support of individual rights has led them to partner with the NRA against a Federal Gun Registry, and to go to court on behalf of such luminaries as Rush Limbaugh, Oliver North and George Wallace.

This is good. However like was already said they need to upgrade to streaming uploads. I have already thought about this and live streaming is what you need to do in any bad encounters with cops. Particularly if you need to start engaging cops to save lives streaming would be required and would aid transparency and be very good for society.

Is there a "grab and lock" app that automatically locks your phone if it is snatched and grabbed by someone?

If you disagree or feel differently, that's fine. I'm not going to write some long dissertation of all the issues/cases/positions that are relevant, it's a long list. If you want to see them, use google, there's plenty of information readily available. If not, that's fine as well, it's not like I'm going to convince anyone.

Can you list just one?

Can you list just one?

Ok, two very easy ones, their attack all the way up to the SCOTUS against the BSA of America, and their staunch opposition to 2nd amendment rights for citizens. There are obviously numerous cases/positions, those are just two easy high level ones.

Love the ACLU. One of the most honorable and truly American (in ideals) organizations around.
