I dont know about ACL sprains but 3 years ago I obliterated my PCL and sprained my MCL. I had surgery for the PCL, cadaver replacement graft, and several months of PT. 3 years later (now) I still have some mild pain and aches. My knee does not feel the same as it did before the injury and surgery. I'm 47 so I may be over the hill in that physical regard, but my opinion is to go real easy on your knee for a few months, wear a brace if possible and dont strain it. Knee surgery is very hit or miss. If I could go back I would have not done the PCL replacement surgery.

Curious, why not?

Well, I am in constant pain still, actually not much less pain than when I actually tore it, I have slight nerve damage IE.. I touch the inner part of my knee and i feel it on the outer part, its a weird sensation. My left thigh is smaller than my right as I assume I walk differently and therefore the left thigh apparently doesnt get as much use even though I try and exercise it as much as possible. My left foot constantly swells up after a long walk, which I do all the time, 5 miles a day on average.

I should have just done physical therapy and adjusted my body to accommodate the loss of my left PCL. I researched this after the fact. Many doctors opt for PT rather than surgery.

Been seeing new massage therapist for the last couple of months. "Structural integration" whole body, deep tissue, the idea is to break up/release problem areas so 1)they function better and 2) they aren't causing other parts to be stressed. After 35+ years of being in a gym, 3 knee surgeries back in the 80's, plus general abuse, I have a lot of them. 18 mo ago, I tweaked the meniscus in the left knee and it's taken forever to heal. That's after a round of steroids + mobic. And ibuprofen most days.

My 1st session, she worked on the IT band (amongst other things)....holy crap that hurt. After a few more sessions, it was much less tender. Multiple places like that even though I try to stretch and use the roller regularly. The point is I haven't had any knee pain in the last 3 weeks. None and I started riding the bike a while back too. I think that I was so tight in some areas that it was causing the problem...I hope so anyway. If it continues, worth every penny.

Hope that wasn't too much rambling...it might be something to look into.
