amd 1.2ghz t-bird asus a7v mobo

Saw a couple bios settings on a tweak site and tried changing them.. saved settings, screen goes black, cdrom light blinking, hd light on solid, and a after a few seconds of nothing a multi-toned beep that sounds like a quiet fire truck or something.

How can I get back into bios to change my settings back?

Try clearing the bios using the jumper on the motherboard. Not sure where it is on your board.

You can remove the battery to your CMOS chip to reset the CMOS settings to defaault. This will get you back to where you can boot up. Leave it out for 30 seconds or so the reinsert and reboot.

This may sound like a stupid question but you did have your machine off when you tried pulling the battery...right? If you did and you tried a resart did it POST if not how many beeps did you get? What bios and version is that MOBO running?

Turn off your system and restart it while holding down the delete key that should do it.

Well you could unplug the case and wait about 15sec and try to hold the delete key again sometimes that will do it. Or you will have to short the solder points, that is what Asus has on there sight..... Good luck.

hold down your INSERT key while booting, it should boot with default BIOS settings

when you take the battery out make sure the powersupply is unpluged cause there is still a current going through you motherboard.

power cord is unplugged when I do the battery thing.

Insert key holding down when booting didn't work

CORRECTION in my previous "symptoms" that "high pitch low pitch" tone ONLY comes after trying to hit the reset key.

When booting cold, no post, no nothing, black screen no signal sent to monitor at all, no beeps.. they keyboard does flash when I hit the power button though.. (whoopie) :|

Asus mobos have two solder points that you short to zero out the BIOS settings. The hi-lo sound indicates something is out of tolerance relating to what is being monitored.

Open up your mobo manual and locate the two solder points . . . it is covered there.

WHOOOHOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know where the solder points are, I just couldn't reach them with anything.. so with the help of some duct tape, a wrench socket and a pair of vice grips I was able to short the little ah heck out... and get my system back...

:) :D ;) :p

Thanks for the quick responses.. MAN am I glad that's over
