I work for a software company as a tester. We are trying to finish the new release, we had what was supposed to be the final build today. Apparently there is some problem with it, so my boss came up to me and asked if I would work tomorrow. I was going to say no, but I know that one of my coworkers (whom I like) would get stuck doing it and that's not cool. The thing is I am an intern so I wont even get paid for my time tomorrow.

Yeah i had to work last saterday so i know how much it sux...
 
I may have to come in tomorrow too. That one of the things about being a salaried employee. When there is downtime you can nef on ATOT all day, but when there is sh!t to do you have to step up and get it done.
 
I dont even want to work here. I just do because they pay better than anything else I could do while looking for a real job.

And a lot of the people in the lab work every (or almost every) weekend, because they are salaried and kind of have to.

I wouldnt show up, it's just that I know one of my good friends here would get stuck doing my work and he's already got a lot to do.
 
well, its the end of the day when the boss asked you right? next time, just pack up your stuff and have it ready, and leave about 10-15 minutes before your shift is over. boss cant ask you to work if your not there. and by any chance, is your girlfriend dragging you to a occupational therapist tonight? just wondering...

Sucks for you. My coworker just told me he is working 830-12pm both Saturday and Sunday...

to which I replied... I'm on a plane to Cancun tomorrow morning...

Muhahahahahaha... see you guys in a week.
 
I hope they remember your dedication and it helps with your future. Very noble of you to think of your coworker like that. Not many would.

haha, but he asked me at 4:40. I usually work until 6, so I couldnt escape.

 
Oh well, that does suck if you don't plan to stay there. I've been having to work weekends on a rotation with 3 other people for the past 4 months and it really sucks. It's also totally pointless in my case :| But tomorrow is not my weekend so will be sleeping till about 10 or so and then preparing myself for a full day off football and naps 🙂
 
I might have to make an " *OFFICIAL* Saturday work thread" tomorrow to which you can all post what fun you are having and I can post my pain.

working weekends and odd hours is a very common thing for software development, hell i've gotton maybe 20 hours of sleep in the last two weeks but i know i can sleep for another two weeks and no one will bother me.
 
You'll do fine. This is my 4th weekend in a row that I've been working. After more than a month of days, I'll finally take a day off on Tuesday. Then again, I own the company, so I love the work I do - even if it's day after day. 🙂

 
i work saturdays, those are my scheduled hours. i dont mind it at all. it means i get mondays off, and while everyone is doing the commute, going back to school/work thing, i sleep in. if i want to run errands, i dont have to worry about lines or parking. but in this case, your only getting 1 day off in the week.
