Ack, this couldn't be what I think it is...

Hi there,

I ordered an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and an Asus EN7800GTX TOP graphics card. I received them about 4 days ago. Installation went easy and everything was working like they should, until now.

When I was just chatting with fellow people, the PC suddenly turned itself off. I didn't know what the hell happened, since I was just chatting. I've done far more intensive stuff before like 3DMark, gaming, multitasking, etc. Anyway, I pressed the power button in an attempt to fire it up again, but no response. So I opened the case and I see that the power LED is still burning, so I thought it's fine (power was still being supplied). Well, off with the PSU (flipping over the power switch) and then back on, tried again, but still no response.

Thinking it was a shortage somewhere on the standoffs, I took out the MB and put it on a cardbox and plugged in the power plugs and used the minimal equipment (CPU, RAM). Again, pressing the power button doesn't help. Everytime I try to do that, the fans move for a bit and then they stop. They don't start spinning, they just move very slightly. The PSU shows the same behaviour, although its fans spin a bit longer, so my guess the PSU somehow blew up. ;_;

But I wanna make sure. What do you think of this weird problem? The specifications are:

MB: Asus A8N-SLI Premium
CPU: AMD Athlon64 3500+ Newcastle
RAM: Crucial Ballistix PC3200
GPU: Asus EN7800GTX TOP Edition
PSU: OCZ PowerStream 520W

That should be enough. Otherwise just take a look at "My Anandtech". So, please, what do you think? Got any suggestions? ;\

Edit: Seems it's the bloody PSU after all. -_- I just plugged it in this PC's motherboard (using a 24pin-to-20pin adapter) and it didn't want to start up either. Using the PC's standard PSU, it works fine, so blerg. Looks like I'll have to RMA it. I hope this isn't typical of OCZ PSU's, that they screw up after almost a year of service. Pfft. ;O

I'm not sure what you mean with that Bill the Cat link, though. xD
I loved Bloom County with Opus the Penguin and Bill the Cat and immediately referenced this with your "Ack" in the title and your "Pfft" as the last word in your opening message. The probability of someone putting both of those in a message, in the right order, without knowing about the comic characters is very small. 🙂

Hehe, what a coincidence! xD

Thanks for telling me that. It cheered me up, after being pissed off for some time about the PSU being kaput right now. 😛
