ARG I hear this is always a big waste of time. How can I get out of this? Can I tell them I have no mastery of the English language or something???

What's the whole deal with jury duty anyhow? Anyone explain the experince?

Just go. More than likely they will settle out of court or you will not be picked.

Last time I got one in the mail I called the night before and it was cancelled so I didn't have to go.

You can tell them that you hate all people and would vote guilty no matter what.

Jury duty is nice @ my company - you get full pay during the time that you're on the jury.

Judge, the police wouldn't arrest the guy if he was innocent...

My GF always writes "when you start keeping the ciminals in jail that get convicted I will serve on a jury but until then you are wasting my time" and sends them back.....she has never been contacted about this matter either.

My first time I was called to jury duty was a few years ago. It was for a murder trial.

The defendant had robbed a Chinese restaurant and shot the owner. His wife (present at the scene) survived testified (they shot at her and missed) . The defendant broke down a few days after the killing and confessed. He was young and foolish, and a murderer. We (the jury) were there to determine the length of his sentence, not his guilt or innocence. There was an older assailant that goaded the defendant into killing the victim. Obviously, he was tried separately.

It was a horrible experience. I never want to participate on a jury again. That being said, it is my civic duty to serve (and I would do it again if called upon).

I have little respect for people who choose not to serve on a jury for their own selfish reasons.

I had to serve for the first time last week and I ended up with a 3 day civil court lawsuit.

The experience is you get to participate in our judicial system.

And it is your duty as a citizen. Now go and due your duty. (oh BTW, you're job has to let you go)

just say that you discriminate against ALL races.

Oh, and also be prepared to pay a fine for contempt of court if the judge is in a bad mood. They recognize statements like that to be attempts to just get out of serving jury duty.

While I feel anyone who can should participate, if you truly need out of it here's my advice. When you go to sign in for selection (if you even make it that far), put an NRA card AND an ACLU card in your wallet, so that when you open it to show ID they both fall out onto the table. You're pretty much guaranteed to get passed over by at least one side with those kinda politics suggested.

Just check off the box that says you're racist.

Unless you want to run for public office, it doesn't matter. It might matter if you have a government job.

I hope i never have to be on trial. Having your fate decided by people who weren't smart enough to get out of jury duty ;)

jury duty sucks... but you suck it up and do it anyways.

my first time, they managed to nail me during spring break. I was pretty annoyed... the case was way boring too. some guy was driving along and as he was driving over a metal place in the road, the plate slid out and rear wheels fell into a 2' deep pothole. the guy was suing the city for damages to his car and medical bills... our case was only to decide liability, though -- there was going to be another case to decide how much money he deserved.

the guy and his wife seemed kinda money-hungry, but since it was only about liability, we ruled in his favor. I mean, if you have a two foot pothole in the middle of a busy intersection, the least you should do is check the plate on a regular basis to make sure that a) it hasn't start to slide off, and b) the pothole hasn't gotten any bigger.

Yeah, I hate it when some money-grubbing moron is suing for a ridiculous amount of money, and they DO have a case. At least you guys only did the liability side of it, pretty cut and dried.

MEDICAL bills, though? Tell me he wasn't claiming whiplash...
