WTF?!

I've gotten a few Electronic Gaming Monthly Magazines (about 3 or so), and I figured I was getting it from one of those free year subscription deals always around in hot deals. So I didn't think much of it.

Then I started getting invoice notices and the magazines stopped coming. I naturally assumed that the trial or subscription ended, and that they were just asking me to send in money for renewal/continuation of service. (You know the shady wordings they use to try and get people to pay up for something they don't have to.)

But I'm not too sure now. In fact, it seems I'm in a very bad situation now as it says at the end of the letter "This is getting serious. Please settle your account now." Along with saying how my long overdue and all that stuff. :Q The letter itself came in a bright red envelope saing "Your immediate attention is required." :frown:

Now I really don't remember agreeing to a contract. I never provided a credit card or anything of that sort. Maybe one of these third party magazine subscription servies screwed me over? I don't know. I'm willing to pay the bill (it's about $20) just to get over with. However, I would like NOT to pay naturally as I haven't even gotten 12 magazines and I don't care too much for them either. Heck, I don't even remember agreeing to a year subscription with payment. But I'm afraid if I spend my time contending they will keep putting up the pressure and might damage my credit. Should I fear that this has already damaged my credit in any way yet? (There has been no notice of legal action or the such yet thank god.) :( If so, how would I go about contending this?! :(

Just call them and politely request a copy of your subscription request. That should settle it.

Once an ISP billed me for a year's service (back during the dark ages of 56k) for ~$100. I recevied several letters from them that payment was due right away. I wrote them demanding the contract where I had agreed to pay their service... didn't hear from them again.

If they produce the documents, they have no right to bill you.
