Whenever I burn a CD and play mp3's in winamp, I get clicks in the sound... like 3 times per second...
When I read from the CD, it clicks as well, but its not nearly as often.
The mp3 files im reading have nothing to do with what im reading/burning off/to the cd.
My sys config:
Plextor 12/10/32 with the newest firmware - Primary master
Abit KT7 Raid
2x IBM 75gxp 15gb w/RAID 0 64k blocks
Duron 600 @ 700 (default voltage)
128 PC100
Hercules 3d prophet II MX
Guillemot Maxi Sound Fortissimo

EVERYTHING has the newest software/drivers.
I use Adaptec Easy CD 4.02c, although I doubt that matters since I have the same effect when reading stuff through explorer

Anyone have a similar prob?
Any ideas?

The problem is probably in the ripping process - meaning, when copying tracks from original CDs to wave/MP3. Try a different audio grabbing prog.

I guess I should have been more clear...
The mp3s play just fine when im not burning/reading...

If you have a SB Live! that is the problem. I have that problem but is with anyhting i do playing an mp3. What is really annoying is when i play DVD's i get the clicking sound and it is very annoying with my klipsch promedias.

If anybody has had this problem and fixed I would like to know.

Burning a CD taxes your Hard drive tremendously. They recommend when you burn a CD not to have any other programs open. The clicking you are hearing is your hard drive not responding because you have asked it to burn a CD for you. You are asking way to much from your computer if you plan to burn CD's and dance while you do it. Nothing to do with the Sound card, its a hard drive issue.

thats what you get for buying ide 🙂 With my scsi, i often burn a cd at 12x, output a dvd to my tv, and play a 3d game all at the same time without a hiccup

Its like someone siad disk drive usage and/or cpu usage. Since its an IDE cd-r you might be taxing your cpu a bit.

But doulbe checking you system again and it seems like it should not be happening at all..

I am running an plextor 8432
Dual c400@468
256 megs of Infineion PC-133
2x 18Gig 22GXPs in Raid 0 64k Blocks

Quite similar and I have 0 problems with mp3s and music..

Oh well

Good luck

The 12/10/32A does not have cpu usage issues if you ENABLE DMA IN WINDOWS. This is absolutely necessary. I forgot to enable it one time after formatting, and my cpu usage while burning was around 50%. With it enabled, I get around 3-5% while burning. I get absolutely no problems playing games, mp3s, etc while burning with this drive.

And no, i don't mean uDMA in the bios, you have to enable dma in windows.

system properties -> device manager -> ide/atapi controllers -> primary/secondary ide controller -> advanced settings. Choose DMA and reboot.
