While installing the card in the slot, I snapped a capacitor off the back bottom corner of the board. I have the capacitor, and both of the small wires appear to be undamaged on the capacitor. I didn't not power up the machine so it shouldn't have hurt the card. I know where it goes, but...

- Does it make a difference which direction the wires go?

- What type of solder should I use, or what else can be used to put it back on?

- Should I send it back to ATI and let the pros handle this? I have very limited experience with soldering and I have a standard solder gun.

I DID IT!!!!!!!!!
YESTERDAY I PICKED UP A FINE POINT GUN, FIGURED OUT THE CORRECT POSITION OF THE CAPACITOR AND DID SOME PRETTY GOOD SOLDERING FOR AN OL BEAT UP GLASSMAKER! IT WORKS FINE!!!!!!!!

Yes, it could matter which direction it goes. They make caps that are polar and non-polar. Non-polar could go in either way, but a polr will have the be properly oriented.

If I were you, I'd send it back. You don't sound to sure of your soldering skills, and this could be an expensive way to learn how to do it.

Good luck.

I think you are right. I'll send it back and get it done the right way...

Thanks,

if the cap fell of, who knows what else is wrong with it .. eh if you don't send it back, whenever you have a problem you will wonder if its due to the card .. if you're anything like me .. replace it don't fix/have fixed .. good luck ..
