i need help deciding between the fuji 2400 and the kodak 3400. i have never used any digital cameras before so this is a first. i can get the fuji for about 240$ and the kodak for about 275$ (after selling the usb reader it comes with). both are 2.1mp (kodak is a tiny bit higher, like 2.11). the fuji has a 3x optical zoom/2.5 digital, the kodak has a 2x optical/3x digital. both are usb. the kodak comes with a video out, the fuji doesnt. the fuji screen is 1.6" and isnt supposed to be that great. the kodak is 1.8", supposed to look better, and has a seperate lcd for camera settings. i guess the tossup is go with the 3x zoom with the fuji with worse lcd, or the 2x optical on the kodak with a better lcd. anyone had experiences with either of these cameras and can recommend between the two? both have 1 year warranties also.

I have a Kodak DC290. It took me a long time to decide on it. I've never once regretted it. I can't say much for the 3400 in particular (never seen one in action), but Kodak as a brand is spectacular.

yeah a question i had was is the fuji has more resolution options, going all the way down to 640x480. the kodak only had 2, going to something like 859x... will i be able to get pics down to about 50-60k on either camera for things like egay or webpages? im looking for a camera that would work on vacation and also for webpages/auctions.

I don't know about those two specific models but if comparing brandwise I would go with a Fuji without a doubt. I might be a bit biased since I own the Fuji Finepix 4700. Based on your info, the 2.1MP and 2.11MP is probably a negligable difference so that isn't really a factor. The LCD screen on my Fuji isn't bad at all, in fact it was alot better than I expected. So it comes down to which has the better zoom since I hardly use the LCD screen anyways. If you use it to take pictures too often the batteries die REALLY fast, most of the time I use the viewfinder.

Just my 2 cents ;)

I vote for the Kodak. I feel it's a better-made unit and is easier to use. The Fuju's are decent, but Kodak seems to have a better product. I've had a chance to play with both.

Yep. That is done with software.

how often is the zoom feature really used? 3x zoom sounds nice but i don't know if id ever really use it. nifty feature but is it practical? (i assume digital zooms are worthless as software can do what the cameras do, and optical is the quality zoom).

I have a Kodak DC265... love it! Have had it for almost three years now? Very reliable... oh and since some Kodak cameras run an OS, you can play games on them!!! I've seen Donkey Kong, Tetris and a few others for the DC265... (dc260, 90 too don't know about the others)... You shouldn't really consider it when you choose your camera.. but just letting you know. ;)

I'll test the one I have at work tomorrow with one of my generic CF cards. Only thing I've used in it is the 16MB that came with it.

"Do I have to use a KODAK brand COMPACT FLASH (CF) card in the camera?
Although the KODAK branded cards are formatted to work in the DC3400 camera, you can use any COMPACT FLASH (CF) card that is certified by the COMPACT FLASH Association. Look for the CF certification symbol shown below: "

on kodak's website. looks like it will take any of them that are certified, whatever that means :) thanks again guys.

Since both cameras are equiped relatively the same , I would suggest trying each to see how you like using them. Don't just go by price or reputation alone. Also I would suggest comparing the pix if you can. Not all cameras produce the same results. I have a finepix 4700 and really like it alot. The colours are rich and very saturated much like a trinitron tube compared to another. The end result is what's important after all.......remember..........pictures.
