ACK! Almost killed my 1.2

I was putting on a new heatsink/fan on my 1.2ghz T-bird, slapped everything together, fired it up.. and NOTHING! ACK! What did I do.. pulled everything apart, noticed I forgot to put the copper spacer in, and chipped a piece of the core off! Ack, I thought for sure it was dead.. Put everything back together carefully this time, and thank god it fired up.. How bad is a chipped core? I suppose if it works who cares.. Whew.. close call.. Heatsinks should really not require the amount of force to hold them in place that they do.. argh..

thats why AMD suxors...ive thrown everything at my celly heatsink and pressure wise and the baby just keeps on cranking..even chipped the core on it a bit as well...its a shame the cores crack easily on the t-birds and durons...

I've installed 3 Athlon systems for family and friends. Yes, that damn clip is hard to put on, but I don't think I came close to cracking the core yet. *knock on wood*

these kinds of things scare me so bad i'm seriously contemplating getting a cheap duron to practice on before putting a 'sink on a 1.33 athlon

I was scared of cracking my core when I got my T-bird. But so far I've taken off and installed my heatsink 3 times without any problems. Most important thing is to apply even pressure and make sure the heatsink is sitting flat with the core. Make sure you dont' tilt the heatsink when you are trying to push the clip down.

I wonder why AMD cores seem more fragile than intels.

Well they gotta cut corners somewhere to make them so much cheaper than Intels 😀

or maybe amd is using more of the core than intel.. if you could chip off a bunch from the ends of the intel chip and have it still work, wouldnt the part that chipped off be nothing? i dunno 🙂 haha amd should do that, just have the ends of the core do nothing so when you chip the end it doesnt screw up.. dunno im being weird cuz it's late 🙁
