Acid Reflux blows

As per the unfortunate usual, I had an interesting reaction to the latest round of antibiotics I've been prescribed. (Nothing serious, just trying to kill this lingering acne) I've dealt with nausea, indigestion and even spontaneous dry heaves with other medications, but all of that pales in comparison to this new side-effect: Acid Reflux. Let me tell you, the accounts of it you see on TV commercials don't do it justice. For one, it's not fun to throw up in your throat a little. Not at all. But the worst part, for me at least, is that even now that I'm off the pills and my stomach is happier, my esophagus isn't. I think it has a hole in it. A large one, judging from the pain.

For those of you who have never experienced this pain... well, you might have and not known it. Ever been kicked in the chest, right where all your ribs meet? (The breadbasket) Remember that pain, and how it lingered. It's like that... for two days now. I also feel like there's an egg caught in my throat. I wonder how I'm going to sleep tonight.

Anyway, that's all I really have to say. Not looking for sympathy really, just wanted to share. I'll be fine; I have a large container of Tums and painkillers, and I'll start taking charcoal if it comes down to it. So... yeah, watch out for that.

I've been on Nexium once a day (twice a day for awhile until they got it under control) for a little over a year now, Zantac 150 (before it was OTC) and Prevacid before that.

If I miss a day I regret it. The throwing up a little in your mouth is bad, but try it while your asleep. Waking up choking is not fun.

Ah yes, the wonders of living with GURD. I take Protonix for it myself.

That being said, acid reflux is a walk in the park compared to the three + years of pain I went through with gall stones.

Having had this experience I'm amazed at how people who have it due to syndrome -- not removable side-effect like myself -- can deal with it. It's rather scary. I imagine Nexium and whatnot are godsends.

In case you couldn't tell, I'm not taking the antibiotics anymore. I want the acne to go away, but not at the cost of my intestinal health.
