But if you really want to know flash, then I recommend you get books about it and read away. But keep in mind, if you do pick up such books, look out. Some are desgined for those that already know the basics. If you need to know such basics then I recommend you refer to that FLASH BIBLE book. Very thick.
I just bought my 5th book: Actionscripting in Flash and I havent started yet. I will begin reading it once the month of July begins

Pretty good forums for beginners and Actionscripting. Lots of tutorials for all sorts of different effects. However, I second the recommendation of the Webmonkey tutorials. Go through those to get a feel for the program, then go to the other sites to learn how to do various effects.
