Took me many more years than I had originally planned but I just wrote another large check to pay off my mortgage. Finally after 10 yrs and 3 months. My original plan was 2 years but I kept pushing it out because I didn't want to lose the opportunity cost of investing in the market. Oh how foolish I was. Surviving the dot com bubble can change your perspective.

I'm now debt free except for my '07 Corvette. That has 2 years left at 0% from GMAC so I'm going to stick with the regular payment plan. My plan now is to enjoy being mortgage free for at least a year before I start looking for a vacation beach condo in the Florida gulf coast.

I'm so excited right now. I'm actually shaking as I type this. Sorry for the brag but I'm super happy now. :)

Congrats - it's really something to be proud of

I was close to paid for on my first house, after 8 years, I had about $10k left to go. Then I got married and it all went to hell (MUCH larger house in a better 'hood)...

The American dream is to get away with bank robbery and move away from America to a sunny island. Not bad though.

pfft.. leverage you debt in appreciating assets. bonus points for being tax deductible.

but congrats Op on paying a premium to follow your dream. (i would too, if complete debt free was my priority)

Sweet. The only taste I've had of that was clearing out my credit card debt. I can't imagine how much greater paying off a house will be.

Congrats! I got there in October but it took me a lot longer. It's a great feeling for sure.

Congrats. :)

If I have my way, I probably won't get to have that dream truly, until I'm close to 50 or so. If I stay in the Army for 20 years, I really won't have the opportunity to own a home that's fully paid off until I have a permanent residence.

You can say that again. How the heck did you do it OP?

The op simply must be single.
