Looking for a public database program accessible to both pc and mac. Are there any that are cross platform compatible? Or is there a program that will convert access files to a mac format and back again once the mac users are finished with them?
You're not going to be able to do it through normal operation that I know of. From what I know (which may not be up to date)MS Access is really craptacular in that it can only be run through Windows with the JET database engine. You have to import on the mac side with ODBC and something like Filemaker. info
You can also export from Access to Excel but the you lose all it's DB properties and it becomes a spreadsheet. You can also export to text if your really desperate. The only way that I know of to run an Access database on a Mac or UNIX/Linux box is via Windows emulation like Virtual PC (mac).
Access is pOOp. The name is misleading, its not accessible at all! 😛
Doing it in a more professional more readily compatible industry standard like mySQL is infinitely better. good luck and keep in mind learning/knowing mySQL shines up a tech resume too.
