Is acer a good company to by a Paltop from? Im thinking of getting a 500-1000 laptop from newegg. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You get a lot of bang for your buck from Acer and Acer laptop are not horrible at all. I actually like them a lot but I decided not to get one because they offered no kind of onsite warranty with their laptops. When something happens you have to send it back to Acer and as I did my research I found out that could be s good 2 months. Even if its returned to you pretty quickly the problem may not be fixed he first time so then you have to resend it again. Such a hassle because it shouldn't take that long or more than once in my opinion.

If Acer would of had a onsite warranty for their laptops I would of bought a Acer!

The second link on your post ..model 4021 would be my choice. Ya..a tad more expensive but I just can't abide by a Intel Celeron processor, they are pigs. Over all the 4021 looks like a decent option.

Thinkpads are really good. They're also good for the price if you're getting a good deal on one 🙂
When you buy an acer, look out because a lot of cheaper units come with half capacity batteries, leading to poor battery life. In contrast, after some tweaking out, my 14" Thinkpad R50e gets 4 - 4.5 hours of battery life and my friend's T42 reports 5 to 5.5 hours! Both on the standard 6 cell battery.

i love the look of the acer laptops...wish i could configure the resolution on them though. my biggest gripe is that and that only.

Celeron M is not a terrible product.

Depending on the use of the notebook, it may be perfectly fine; if maximum battery life or a lot of processor intensive tasks (encoding, rendering, databases, etc) are on the menu, then yes the Pentium M would be worth it.

The P4 celerons were definitely dogs, but the celeron M, while not a great product, is pretty livable.

Hey check this out:

Acer Aspire Notebook PC (AS5004WLMI)
ACA AS5004WLMI
? AMD Turion? 64 M-34
? 1024MB of DDR333 memory
? 15.4" WXGA TFT display ? 100GB hard drive
? Double-layer DVD+/-RW
? 802.11g/b wireless

$899 AR

I know it is a little bit more expensive that the 839 at newegg.. but this is better. I also know that rebates are pain... but if you are in a position where you could wait for the money then consider this one.
