Any word on these guys or an alternative for a similar price but much better quality?

Newegg has a batch of refurbed ones for a song $250 bucks. 144Hz, 1440P, Freesync (with an apparently great range).

I game a little every week. Its my method of relaxing and I tend to play relatively old games with a decent computer (Typically SSAA them on my older 1080P monitor), so while I feel like I'd like to see high refresh in action I don't want to drop $500+ bucks for some really swanky monitor when the thing will really be getting maybe 5-10 hours of use a week tops.

I actually tend to like refurb products, my thought process being whatever was going to fail on that component brand new already has and has been fixed. The product likely has the latest firmware and has had a sort of individualized QA that new products will never really have.

Any reason I shouldn't pull the trigger on this or is there something else out there that makes more sense?

Hmm, "top critical review" is still 3 eggs. Not too shabby. Might bite. Appears to be "factory" re-certified, which means something to me. (I bought a 1440P monitor, an Acer, that was "seller refurbished" from ebay, it had some episodes with vertical lines through the display. They came and went, if I knocked the monitor over. :p )

Picked up the Acer, you can find them refurbed by Acer on Amazon as well.

The long and short of it is, I'm glad I put the $250 down. At the end of the day, its a nice TN panel. Everything looks a little more washed out than my old IPS screen, but the bump in screen size, resolution, and refresh rate is definitely worth it. No dead pixels.

I was impressed that the screen came with a Displayport, DVI, and HDMI cable given that many manufacturers wouldn't even give you one cable with a brand new monitor.

Unfortunately my old 980TI isn't compatible with Freesync, so no word on that, but it can push plenty of older games at a silky smooth 144FPS so I still have that going for me.

Fit and finish of the monitor is nice. Stand is a little janky but allows some tilt, and the monitor definitely does not appear obviously used.

Beware that in some images for this monitor the images show an almost cherry red trim along the bottom. The true color is more of a burnt orange, or a very orange bronze, not red.

All in all, if you're looking for a nice cheap high refresh 1440p monitor you could do much much worse I imagine. If I run into any hiccups down the road I'll come back and update but for the moment, I am happy.
