Acer with LGA775 and Pent D, want to use C2D

I have an acer veriton 6800 which, on their site, lists up to a Pentium D as the fastest CPU the line carried. it has a 945 chipset motherboard so in theory it could work with a C2D such as the E6300 in it but I dont know for sure. 1. anyone know if this mobo supports a core series cpu and 2. if I tried a core series cpu in this motherboard, could it ruin the chip? id like to use the existing board if possible so I dont have to buy a new one but dont really want to risk my e6300. thoughts?

It has a good shot of supporting an e6300 I had a 945 chipset board and it had an e5200 in it. I would try to see if you can find the exact make and model of the motherboard, and check and see if Acer has a cpu support list.

It might support older 65 nm CPU's, but most likely not the newer 42 nm CPU's.
Of course, check that the latest motherboard bios is installed.

I checked acers support site and the bios notes dont indicate which CPUs are supported. all I could find was P4 class processors in all the model derivatives of that series. I dont really want to risk blowing out a E6300 in it... I ordered a different motherboard, oh well. I mean is there a risk of wrecking the CPU?
