Hey all,

I'm currently looking to buy me a laptop. My eye has fallen on two acer laptops, the Travelmate 803LCib and the Travelmate 661LCi... both have: 512mb ram, centrino, 15" SXGA 1400x1050 screen, 40gb disk. Major differences are:

803LCib:
* 1.6ghz centrino
* ati mobility radeon 9000 with 64mb DDR
* soundblaster pro and mS directsound compatible card
* acpi 2.0 compliant
* smartcarad reader

661LCi:
* 1.4 ghz centrino
* Intel DVMT-based 64mb dynamically allocated vidcard
* mssound compatible soundcard
* acpi 1.0 compliant
* 4-in-1 card reader (SD, SM, MMC, MS)

I honestly don't know which one to pick. The 661 is cheaper, around 300 EUR, but is there a noticable speed difference between an 1.4 and a 1.6 centrino?

Thx.

No. No noticeable diff between 1.4 and 1.6. However, an important point to consider is that the 661LCi seems to have an INTEGRATED VIDEO CARD. This is Baaaddddd even if u ain't a gamer. If ur a gamer, the choice is obvious.

My recommendation, go for the 803Lcib....mainly cuz it has a dedicated video card (and a good one too!).

803LCib all the way.

The dedicated video is faster on its own, and the fact that it won't be stealing 64mb of your main RAM is an added bonus. Plus, another 200MHz never hurts.

The logical question is what are you going to be using it for?

I just got a 4lb Vaio 12.1" screen with only ATI 16MB but I don't use it for games. If you are going to play games, get the 803.

Well, I'm not planning for games - I've got a nice desktop system for that. It's mostly a replacement for a trusty old but rather slow P3 650 Dell that I'm currently using which is - unfortunately - not mine.
