I am really interested in the price points for the following laptops in the US. I am not even sure they are going to be launched here. Anyone know anything about the refresh of the TimelineX series?

Hello Ethek, and welcome to AnandTech Forums.

Acer has traditionally had Timeline/TimelineX models here in the USA. Unfortunately they don't always have their full lineup available here. However, usually the ones "missing" from the USA lineup are the ones with discrete graphics. Since you are asking about ones with IGP, you might be in luck. In any case this just looks like a refresh of the earlier TimelineX, with Sandy Bridge CPUs instead of Clarkdales.

If you're looking for a decent, cheap notebook, the TimelineX are pretty good. We bought my mom one last summer - my only complaint is in the build quality. The screen chassis is slightly warped, so the lid doesn't sit flush with the body when closed. It might have to do with the way my mom opens and closes the lid, but I guess that's to be expected with a cheapo notebook.

Thanks for the welcome. Tho, it is not the first time I've been here. I had an account back in 98 or 99 I think, back in the days of Celeron 300a overclocking. I think I let it lapse around 05 somehow.

I love the Dell Latitutude 6410 series.. I think, if I could get one, this Acer would be the closest I could get to an affordable modernized version of it. Shame,

i have the 1830t....yeah, the build quality is not that great. not horible, just not quite the feel you expect to have, but the 1830 is the entry level i3 model, so maybe the other ones are sturdier?

I don't think the 1830 is the same series (year prior?) as the 2830/3830/5830t's. I had heard about the build quality issues on the existing TimelineX models... A little hopeful it would be rectified.

To be fair, no other laptop build quality is going to be stellar at the same price range as Acers at the same specs.
