I recently bought an Acer laptop and monitor. The laptop seems to now have a dead pixel and the monitor has a stuck pixel that I can't seem to fix.

What are other people opinions of Acer?

Aside from those 2 things the products seem to work fine.

Yeah I got a 14.1" laptop for cheap that's an Acer, and has pretty good specs for what I need of it. Nice screen, haven't had a single problem with it. Heh, running Windows 7 Beta 1 on it, very stable too.
I carry it around in my backpack to class sometimes, and it seems to handle abuse quite fine.

The products themselves are decent quality. I think its more the QC that leaves something to be desired. This is coming from a netbook perspective.

Got an Acer laptop Nov 07 at Walmart for $350 (before the netbook craze). Works great and works fine with Vista. Can even play Red Alert 3 at lowest settings. Looks nice too.

i had an acer monitor for awhile. only reason i replaced it was to get a bigger screen.
we used acer monitors at my last job and they worked great. also had a few laptops that worked well too.

Overall, yes.
They are not normally my first choice in brand, but I never turn them down if they fit the bill.
Got my mom a nice widescreen LCD for Xmas and she says she's happy with it. Just got myself a nice little netbook and it does the job.

Haven't had any issues, I typically use them for low-cost builds for people, and they haven't had any issues. Only product I personally use by them is a netbook, and have no complaints so far, aside from the XP home (which I changed to MCE :p)

We have about 50 acers I have bought. (edit: monitors)

They are usually the best value outside buy/newegg deals of the day.

They work well, but we have had quite a few failures. All have been covered under warranty though (ship just the panel back to Acer, about 10 days later you have it fixed or a new panel...sometimes a brand new upgrade).

The only problem we really had is we bought 2032W for our senior management a few years ago. Very high end looking screens that we paid extra for that reason (about $600-800 at the time)...the replacement is a 24" with no speakers and a plain black chassis. They don't have anything comparable anymore.

other than the 2032W models I am happy. Personally I'd like a 24" over a 20", but they don't dress up the desk at all and I have to deploy desktop speakers which most think are archaic.

I'd get my issues fixed but I assume they wont cover monitor issues due to one pixel.

I have 2 acer 19" LCDs. One came with a dead pixel, the other started having some slight brightness at the bottom, sorta like a circle, but only really visible on white backgrounds. Might be because of my cat though, she'll go right up against it sometimes. Other then those two issues though the monitors are great. I'd probably buy another acer product. I wish LCDs had a glass covering though, it would make them less touchy.

I've had 2 acer monitors. The first one had built-in speakers that started buzzing incessantly after a while. I wasn't so happy with that one.

The one I'm using right now is also an acer and I like it much better. Good pictures on both of them and no stuck pixels. My opinion of acer is favorable overall.

I bought a TravelMate laptop from them, and after a while the screen would go black if it wasn't open at just the right angle or if you put pressure on certain parts of the laptop base (although this could make the screen normal again, too). Seemed like a loose connection or something. Sent it in under warranty and they decided it was the LCD screen, and so they replaced it and sent it back, claiming it "booted up normally," which was never the issue in the first place. Still had the same problem, sent it in again, and they replaced the motherboard. That fixed it. Also the touchpad sidebar scrolling feature doesn't work in a lot of applications. Besides that, I can't really think of anything else. Nothing really remarkable about it. I did get it at a decent price, though.

Based on my personal experience, I will look elsewhere for my products in the future, although I will not completely rule Acer out.

My first LCD monitor was an LG and it had a stuck pixel that I couldn't ever fix. My new Acer is fine though, and so is my Asus screen on my netbook.

I use to sell them at circuit city.

Their monitors are awesome on their laptops(which I think was their major selling point)
Firedog techs always told me that the stuff on the inside of the laptops where very generic and that they where the #1 most repaired laptop in the store.

I got an Acer 22" monitor about half a year ago and no dead pixels. I actually haven't gotten any dead pixels out of the 5 monitors I've had. The laptops though I'm not too fond of. But that's just because I don't like netbooks in general.
