Is anyone running Win7 on a netbook?

I have an Acer with an Intel Atom N270 processor, 1GB DDR2 ram and 160G HD.

Will this run Win 7 OK?

thanks

corkyg, thanks for the link and reply. what is a starter edition? I'm at work and don't have much time to research.

thanks for your help.

I have a LAtitude 2100 and have windows 7 premium on it with 2gb of ram, runs no problems at all. seems better to me than the acer my daughter uses with xp on it.

7 Starter is a highly crippled version of 7, lots of features removed. You should throw Linux on netbooks though, runs better, no restrictions on what you can and cannot do.

I have an AO250 running Windows 7 Pro and it runs better than XP. I did upgrade the memory to 2 GB and installed a 7200 RPm hard drive.

i would have to disagree.

i have a net top with 1gb ram, and atom 230. and ubuntu runs so crappy as far as version 9.10 that win7 home premium actually runs better.

at least web browsing seems better. it might be a crappy driver for the intel igp on 9.10 but nonetheless win7 runs faster and feels faster.

So runs better on linux is not a definite. if you only have 512mb of ram, linux i think could run better but if you have over 1GB its not necessarily so for most netbook type tasks.

Easy Peasy ran like a dream on my N270 based EeePC, its Ubuntu based. Mint runs smooth as butter on my Revo 3610, though that has a Atom 330 and Ion IGP.

Today I opened up the case and would like to beef up the HD and Memory. On the motherboard is 512 and under the board is a memory slot, will XP Home accept 2 gig ddr2 memory stick? I'm not sure at this point if I'm gonna install Win 7. Also looking to put a 500gig 7200 hard drive.

Any ideas and again thanks for all the replys.

Win XP will run fine with 2Gb ram, but since you never mentioned your model # will your netbook accept 2Gb ram. Read your manual or go to Crucial and use their memory advisor tool.
