Acer Laptops

after being used to dell sending someone out... no. unlike my desktop, which i can generally do without for a couple days, i need my laptop all the time.

I got an Acer laptop. I didn't care about on-site service. It had all the features I wanted for the amount I wanted to pay.

What will you do when something breaks?

i wouldn't care about onsite

How cheap does it have to be whats the line?

What would you do if it broke?

i could either fix it or get a guy at the shop to fix it on the side

I hear their products suck, their cust support sucks, and their marketting strategies are similar to something for something-nothing, "take our products, if they break on you, we'll [try] to fix it for you."

What if its the whole motherboard? Thats going to cost a lot and you may still need to send it back to Acer because maybe they are the only ones with that part.

Get it fixed? Send it in? I guess it depends on what breaks. I could probably fix some things myself.

Even if it cost a arm and a leg?

What are you trying to get at?

Its just like anything else. If or when the time comes I'll have to make that decision. What happens if your on-site from Dell expires and your laptop gets broken? Are you going to throw it away? Are you going to get it fixed if it costs an arm and a leg?

By the time that happens I will already have a new laptop.

By the way I don't like Dell laptops.

IBM laptops are better built quality and have better support. IBM stands behind their laptops. I know another company like bought IBM laptops and the company is not really IBM anymore but IBM laptops are just as good now as they were before.

So what is your point? Or are you just trying to stir things up?

Laptops will break sooner or later within the first 3 years. It could be a major problem or a minior problem. Just depends. No one should gamble with that.

My 3 year old Sotec/Averatec laptop still works just fine. Had a 1 year warranty but I never needed to use it. I use it almost everyday to take notes in class.

Again...What is your point? What does this have to do with anything? Did that happen to you? Are you thinking of buying an Acer laptop?

And what does on-site have to do with any of this? You can get a 3 year warranty on an Acer laptop. So you have to send it in first. Big whoop. Just delete all your porn first.

Onsite warranty takes a lot less time and is a lot better because you can make sure they fix the problem and not have to resend it a second, third ... time.

My 3.5 year Compaq Presario 1500T is a tank (size wise) but works just fine.

Would I buy an Acer? Yes but only if it was a hot deal then I'd turn around and sell it for profit on eBay/CL.

So I guess the answer is No 🙂
