Nice to see dual core laptops with 3 GB of RAM going for $500. Makes me wonder what's in store for Black Friday. So, which is the better deal?

That sounds like a great deal. Unfortunately, I am unable to find it anywhere. :( Can you give us more information?

In my experience, even if it has a rebate, if it's an Office Depot rebate it's as good as money in the bank. ;)

I've been trying to sell these Acers to folks, but they have never heard of Acer. They are wary of th brand. But its a fine laptop for the money, and its the one I'd buy if I had to get one at OD.

Lately bought a pretty loaded Gateway LT at OD too.
I paid sub-600 for it with $135 rebate which is in the approval phase.
In other words I'm happy with most of my OD purchases.

I had an Acer 200 Mhz desktop years ago (1998) and I thought it was a POS, but I get the sense that Acer has improved. I do have one of the seemingly ubiquitous cheap Acer 19" LCDs and it's fine thought it barely gets used since it's on the second computer.

Acer has been around forever, since like 1999 or before. If I recall correctly, they specifically exited the desktop market several years ago to focus only on desktops and other hardware like monitors.

They do make good laptops, I'll vouch for them.

Yup same here, I work Staples on the weekend and nobody wants to buy Acer because they're not Dell/HP/Bose/Sony Xplode haha. They all come from the same 3 or 4 Tiawanese companies, in fact you get a lot more bang-for-your-buck with Acer.
