ACER Laptop My Computer searching trouble

My father in law has an Acer laptop that has a 1.6gb 64 bit processer with 1gb RAM, 100gb harddrive partitioned into two drives and is having some trouble with it recently. All components were standard when purchased, nothing added.

When you click my computer, the computer takes a long time (approx. 3 min) to show all of his drives. The device manager has no errors. He gets the flashlight swaying as if its looking for hardware or something. This only happens when you click my computer icon. All other folders/icons don't do this and load really fast. It just recently started doing this....

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....

Alright - the standard answer/question -
What av/antimalware/firewall does he use?

What are the full system specs?
When did the problem start?
Did he 'do' anything just before, even if it seems completely unrelated?
Does he know much about computers?

Open IE, type the url www.anandtech.com, BUT do not include http://. Does it take a long time? How about when http:// IS included?

Does he have any scanners/all-in-one printers installed?

Run Adaware and delete the MRU's as well as everything else.

montag451:
The problem started about a week ago, apparently he had a hard time installing a All in one printer, which was plugged into the wrong port on the printer, the phone port. Which explains that he does not know much about computers!!!! LOL!!!!

Guild:
www.anandtech.com does not work.
when I add the http, it DOES work
he does have an all-in-one printer installed. I believe he has 2
ad-aware has already been run, but I will run again.

RBBRMADE:
I do not see any mapped network drives

I have also pasted a hijack this below:

I just removed the HP ALL IN ONE 7400 series (Wireless) printer and that solved my problem....Is there a way to have this installed without it searching all of the time and taking forever to show "my computer" contents????

The only other issue I am having now is I keep getting an error installing (3) Windows updates:
Microsoft GDI+Detection tool
Critical Update for Office XP SP2
Windows malicious software tool

I have tried disabling the firewall and A/V program with no luck.....Any more ideas would certainly be appreciated.......Thanks All!!!!

You might want to do a system backup (START PROGS ACCESSORIES SYSTEM System restore)
Choose 'create a restore point'

Now,
Reinstall the all in one.
After the restart, START RUN (type) msconfig (type) STARTUP tab.
Untick the hp all in one - if there are several boxes, which are more than likely, untick one at a time and restart each time - see if that makes a difference.
Once you find the one that is causing the problem, try reticking the others if you want.

If you still have the same problem, contact HP
