Hi guys, I have a old acer laptop which I have been using for school for the last year and half. I was using Ubuntu on it and it was running fine. However, now the power does not come on.

It is not the adapter or battery as I tested it. I took it to a local computer repair shop to test more adapters of same kind and test my adapter on another laptop to find out that it was not the problem. The shop guy told me that it was the part in that laptop where the adapter actually plugs in (sorry i dont know the name). He said I would need to resolder that part as it became loose and was a common problem amongst laptops.

I am wondering if you may have experienced such a problem or can suggest a solution. I will try calling acer on monday as they don't answer on weekends.

I really don't want to spend money on another laptop as I don't have the money because of school :(. If i can get this one alive it would be awesome. Oh and it is a Acer Travelmate 2413

THank you for any help.

You need a power jack repair.
If you can handle a soldering iron, check out Steve Cherubino's Laptop Repair Videos.

Want to save $$? Go through The Mike Tech Show link to the videos and use the code "MTS" for 10% off.

I know I sound like a used car salesman, but I've purchased the videos and they're very helpful when it comes to all kinds of laptop repairs.

The cost of the videos will only be about 1/3 (or less), the cost of paying a shop to do the repair on the power jack.

yup, power jack. You can find replacements on ebay. Then you need to disassemble the laptop and solder the new one on. (or have the local computer shop guy do it)

I got a free one that way. It cost me a total of 20.00 for a new jack, solder, braid and a new iron. The worst part was waiting for it to ship from China. It took about 2 weeks to get the jack, but was worth the wait. It takes about 20 minutes to tear down the laptop the first time. Just don't get solder everywhere when you put the new one back in, and get a ohms meter and check the jack after you solder the piece back together before you reassemble the laptop.
