Acer laptop harddisk noise - common problem?

I bought an Acer Extensa 500T a couple of years ago. After a year or so, the harddisk became quite noisy... - In the end I had to use earplugs because it annoyed me. Two months ago i finally had the harddisk exchanged under an extended warranty, got a 9.4GB harddisk instead of the old noisy 3.4GB.

However, now - just now, a few hours ago - the new harddisk has started being noisy as well. Just an insistent humming, which is very annoying. For the first couple of months it was fine, with just the usual "clicking sound" from time to time.

My question is this: are Acer laptops known for being noisy? - If they are, I'm looking elsewhere for my new laptop...

Thx,

It isn't the laptop that is noisy, it is the HDD. If your HDD is making noise (other than what is normal) then I would suggest having it replaced. Don't be too quick to blame the HDD. The fan makes noise as does the CD-Rom and FDD.

Well, it is certainly the HDD, because there's no fan, and it's also noisy when the FDD and the CD-Rom are not active...
