Acer Laptop Difficulties

For a little under a year I've had an ACER Aspire 5670 and only as of today i have noticed a considerable slump in performance. For the most part i can run all my regular applications, but when i try to listen to music it doesn't seem to process it fast enough, making for a difficult listening expereince.

I really have not run into anything like this before, and I'm anticipating hard drive failure. If anyone can help me cure or at least diagnose the problem I would be very grateful.
