anybody know the battery life on this? Are the sempron's even powerful enough for anything more than basic, one task usage? how do these compare to celeron m cpu's (256mb cache vs. 1mb cache)?

price looks good, especially since it's not hp/compaq.

I got one of these when they were on sale for $499.99 (well after rebates and such..)

The battery life kinda sucks. I took mine back but almost wish I didn't. It's really nice for the price, even $700 bucks isn't that bad, but I couldn't even get the battery to last a good 50 minutes, yet alone an hour. This Acer laptop couldn't even get me through a class period, I was pretty pissed.. I called Acer because Circuit City uses their product specifictions, and Acer specified it can last up to 1.5 hours.. I was told that the 1.5 hour benchmark was from letting the computer boot up, goto bios, and just sit there for 1.5 hours. Pretty cool right? Who would wanna buy a laptop that is benchmarked on how long it can last in the bios.. Yeah, it pissed me off pretty bad. They said the average for this laptop was only about 45-50 minutes, and all they could do to help me out was send me a replacement battery, and I'd have to send mine back to them.

I ended up yelling at circuity city (since they missadvertised the laptop's life span, basically anyway), and had to talk with like 3 managers and gripe and they finally let me return the laptop and get my money back. Sure was a pain going through this laptop, the only thing that sucked was the battery life.. so yeah, hope that gives you an estimate about the battery life of it lol.

I'm still looking for a good deal on a laptop w/ a life span of (hopefully) 2 hours +.. that would be nice. Well cyas

I picked one up for $500 after rebates as well, its a very decent laptop but battery life is only 45min - 1 hr. under normal use, supposedly from the stuff I've read online the batteries from a couple of the other acer laptops do fit and will give you 2 1/2 - 3hrs out of it, I haven't wanted to spend the $80 to do it yet though (I can use it plugged in most of the time). Anyway, good luck,
