I bought this Acer Extensa 4620 laptop at Best Buy during the sale before Xmas time. I've opened it and I'm happy with it except for one small problem.

Whenever I leave the laptop alone and its not doing anything, I hear a soft clicking sound every 30-60 secs. I'm not sure what it is, but I think it may be the hdd or something. So I ran a virus scan (because it uses the HDD and cpu) and not one weird clicking sound during the 10 min scan.

So does anyone have any idea? Do I need to update a driver or something?

Thanks in advance.

I think you need to elaborate more on "clicking". If you have Vista on the machine then you will hear the HD working most of the time, even if the computer is not doing anything; welcome to Vista! (my Acer did that - HD was working almost nonstop).

Also, put your head next to the computer and see if the clicking IS the HD or maybe it is coming from the speakers. If it is the speakers you may need new drivers or you may need new speakers/sound card. If you update your sound card drivers and it still "clicks", and you know it is not the HD, maybe go back to BB.

One last thought, you may hear "poping" sounds through the speakers if someone in your house, or next to it, is running some heavy duty (or old) electrical equipment (turning it on/off, working it at high RPMs). Just a thought.
